UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Full Time (Rooney Sports Complex)

Description

Maintain responsibility for the day to day organization, administration, management and marketing services as developed by CRS. Additionally, provide sports performance/fitness evaluation, training and programming for clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Completes performance evaluations of direct reports as requested in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Attends and actively participates in staff meetings, staff development, departmental committees and in-service education programs.
  • Consults with clients on a regular basis to enhance retention through customer service and quality programming. Resolves any member issues through effective customer service skills and referring others to the proper authority levels.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and provides excellent customer service characterized by caring, concern and support for the public, supervisors, employees and coworkers.
  • Ensures that all new and existing members receive quality personal programs by marketing the department's services, developing specialized programs based upon health history, medical input and assessment, maintains client exercise log, establishes concrete goals for each client, and re-assesses clients on a regular basis for goal achievement/progress, demonstrating equipment usage, explaining proper physiology and answering all questions with a high standard of customer service.
  • Maintains current status of all pertinent criteria necessary to satisfy competency requirements for regulatory and accrediting agencies such as OSHA, TJC and CMS and practitioner requirements for participation as a health care provider including but not limited to: required CEU's, current professional license; current curriculum vitae; current CPR certification; current TB test; current competencies in safety, age and equipment; and in some cases current automobile license and current automobile insurance.
  • Achieves and maintains a level of productivity which meets or exceeds the standards established for the facility by the organization.
  • Effectively manages the clinical environment to ensure quality of care. Ensures all equipment is functioning properly and safely; ensure proper maintenance, repair and cleaning of all equipment. Performs administrative duties of tracking supplies, booking appointments, answering phones and maintaining bulletin boards/information areas.
  • Participates in special events/programs including community education and/or continuing education programs sponsored by the organization as requested.
  • Effectively creates a climate of open communication and assists staff with work-related problems. Serves as a role model to the junior staff.
  • Appropriately requests and actively reports objective feedback to the Program and Regional Directors regarding department performance and emergency situations. Actively supports and implements the organization directives of the senior management team.
  • Adheres to and supports the organizational policies, procedures and the mission of Centers for Rehab Services, including the Corporate Compliance Program and its Code of Conduct and HIPAA regulations. This includes acceptance of the responsibility to report to the appropriate person(s) any suspected unethical, incompetent, or illegal activities or conduct.
  • Oversees the daily operations of services clients. This may include; addressing daily staffing needs, developing staffing schedules, review and approve time off requests, and initiate recommendations for improvement for problem areas; monitor areas for success.
  • Performs all job responsibilities and other duties as assigned by the facility or the organization in a manner that coincides with the mission of Centers for Rehab Services.
  • Formulates and institutes a marketing and business development plan for the facility. This is done in consultation with the Regional or Program Director, the Director of Marketing and Business Development and/or the Corporate Management Team and includes but is not limited to participation in community relations activities (health fairs, school districts, senior/community centers, churches, professional groups).
  • Actively designs, implements or delegates the orientation/mentorship and staff development of new and future staff members within their respective facility. Monitors staff and identifies areas of professional growth.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality.
  • Develops specific programs, coordinate the scheduling of these programs to meet specific needs of the target population, and monitor program progress by setting quality control procedures; surveying participants, staff for suggestions, issues. Identifies current client and potential facility needs via survey and quality control, works aggressively with potential partners (UPMC Sports Medicine, Alexander's Fitness, All American Baseball, etc.) to ensure quality programming.
  • Participates in the process of capital and operating budget preparation for their respective facilities. Monitors monthly budget variances and provides analysis and reports for variances.
  • Implements an approved student internship program with the University of Pittsburgh; provides training, evaluation, coaching, scheduling, and required timekeeping and related internship paperwork.
  • Independently pursues professional growth and development related to this position and in lines with the mission and activities of Centers for Rehab Services. Presents in-service and educational programs.
  • Actively participates in human resources management for your area of responsibility, including but not limited to the following areas: selection/placement (interviewing/hiring); orientation of all facility staff, performance management (evaluation/competency assessment/improvement plans), and employee relations (including disciplinary action and conflict resolution). Consults human resources manager and/or POD director when dealing with these matters to ensure compliance on internal (policies/practices) and external (legal and regulatory) matters.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science
  • Master's, preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years training athletes ages 12-50+.
  • Marketing experience and ability preferred.
  • Six months experience with Centers for Rehab Services preferred.
  • Two or more years supervisory/management experience in a health care/fitness and/or performance setting preferred.
  • Must possess the knowledge and skill required for developing and implementing speed, agility, strength, power aerobic and anaerobic conditioning programs for all sports and age groups.
  • Must possess the knowledge and ability to provide Functional Movement Asessments and Performance Assessments for all sports and age groups.
  • Must possess knowledge and skill in demonstrating proper weight lifting, speed and agility mechanics.
  • Must be skilled in planning/organization on site and off site performance camps for various sports.
  • Must possess the ability to devise and implement marketing strategies to grow the client base.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
