Description

Purpose:
Works collaboratively to oversee and direct stroke care at UPMC-Pinnacle. In collaboration with the service line leadership team, assumes responsibility for the development, implementation and management of the Stroke and Telestroke Program. Provides leadership for clinical and administrative process improvement. Works with the stroke clinical teams and Process Improvement/Quality to facilitate standardization of best practices and collaboration among team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures consistency and standardization of the program in each market across the System.
  • Serves as facilitator for the Core Stroke Team which meets monthly to review program development, quality measure outliers, and peer review process.
  • Provides guidance to Stroke Coordinators at each UPMC Pinnacle sites.
  • Provides leadership in development, maintenance, implementation, and evaluation of written care protocols including physician?s standing orders based on established guidelines from the American Stroke Association, clinical pathways with an expected length of stay, clinical practice guidelines, and procedures for rapid response for Stroke Alerts.
  • Oversees data collection and management for the stroke database to track the number and type of stroke patients seen, their treatments, timelines for receiving treatments, STK measures, and other impact indicators selected to measure outcomes.
  • Facilitates the collection of performance measures to serve as a means to evaluate the overall customer satisfaction, financial performance and long term outcomes. Utilizes measures to identify and implement opportunities for improvement.
  • Develops, maintains and updates all required documents for regulatory bodies such as Joint Commission and Department of Health. Ensures that all mandated measures are collected and submitted in a timely basis and the hospitals are prepared for site visits.
  • Maintains awareness of market share to assess competitiveness of service; develops and implements plans to increase market share of (stroke) services. Works with Marketing staff to effectively educate community and referring physicians about program.
  • Develops and facilitates ongoing professional education programs for key stakeholders such as Emergency Department physicians, hospitalists, EMS providers, nursing, etc.
  • Develops and implements patient educational material for all patients who may benefit. Coordinates and participates in community awareness programs about stroke prevention, diagnosis and treatment options.
  • Ensures that telestroke processes and programs are in place to support the success of the telestroke program with all participating hospitals
  • *Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.*Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience required 3 years of experience in the department specialty preferred.
  • BSN, MSN preferred.
  • The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the patients as specified below.
  • They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Act 33, 34 and 73 are required within the first 30 days of employment
