COVID-19 Vaccination Information

Across UPMC, our guiding principle is to always prioritize the safety of our employees, patients, and members. UPMC believes that vaccination is important, helps protect all, and advocates that everyone who can be vaccinated should be vaccinated.

UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

If you are not yet vaccinated, we urge you to get a vaccine now. You can schedule your COVID-19 vaccination through UPMC or visit a non-UPMC provider or UPMC Urgent Care location.

Proof of vaccination is not required upon hire; however, employees will be responsible for ensuring post-hire compliance by getting vaccinated or requesting a medical or religious exemption.

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at Magee Women's Hospital

Department of Radiation Oncology

300 Halket Street

Pittsburgh, PA  15232

Position Description:

A full-time position is immediately available for a medical physicist at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at UPMC Magee Womens hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. UPMC Magee Womens Cancer Center has a strong focus on bringing state-of-the-art treatments to patients in the region.  A world leader in brachytherapy procedures, UPMC Magee Womens houses Varian’s Halcyon and Clinac IX, linear accelerators and Nucletron HDR brachytherapy system.  Discussions are under way to upgrade the Halcyon to Varian’s ETHOS online adaptive radiotherapy platform and install a Siemens state-of-the-art large bore CT simulator with most updated technological features. The Varian Eclipse TPS and ARIA information systems are used for treatment planning and documentation.

The physicist in this position will join a dynamic team of three physicists and 3.5 dosimetrists at UPMC Magee Womens Hospital and more than 30 physicists across the network. Primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, planning and delivery of a very busy program of all types of specialty HDR brachytherapy procedures, regular quality assurance testing of radiotherapy equipment and treatment delivery processes, dosimetric calibration of radiation therapy equipment, SRS/SBRT treatment planning and delivery, and oversight of 4D-CT and gated radiation therapy. Additionally, this position will provide regular coverage of Gamma Knife procedures at the nearby Gamma Knife facility. The Gamma Knife program at the University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurosurgery houses a Perfexion and Icon unit and is the premiere site for Gamma Knife radiotherapy in the world. In addition to clinical duties, this position will have opportunities for interested physicists to perform clinical research, education, and implementing novel clinical techniques.  UPMC Shadyside runs a CAMPEP-accredited medical physics residency program; all medical physics residents from this program undergo an extensive HDR rotation through Magee as part of their educational requirements. The Magee physicists are actively involved in the education and training of both the medical physics as well as radiation oncology residents.

The successful candidate will have a full support of the Medical Physics Division. The Division’s goal is to scale advanced techniques across the network to enable high-quality care close to patients’ homes.  The successful candidate should have demonstrated clinical skills and is expected to function independently with excellent oral and written communication skills. Board certification and at least three years of clinical experience are preferred but not required, and we encourage early-career physicists to apply.
