Description

UPMC Physician Operations & Professional Services, LLC seeks a Senior Improvement Specialist to develop, implement, and evaluate technical improvement initiatives in the clinical setting, based on statistical and mathematical analysis designed for systems optimization.  Employ mathematical and statistical analyses to determine the optimal solutions for healthcare management and systems improvement projects.  Coordinate the assessment of current operation processes.  Assess hospital/facility/departmental readiness and identify strategies to achieve improvement goals.  Utilize the UPMC improvement model to drive system-level improvement.  Employ various analytical approaches such as TPS/Lean/PDSA or others as appropriate.  Design models for testing various approaches and evaluating effectiveness.  Facilitate implementation of value projects related to improving healthcare access and reducing readmissions.  Measure and analyze data to understand and interpret information.  Collect, examine, and process large quantities of data throughout the continuum of care.  Analyze and assess clinical practices.  Conduct investigations, develop efficient care initiatives, and engineer technological, operational, and systemic solutions employing clinical technology such as Cerner, Cognos, and EPIC.  Optimize and enhance patient care within the UPMC hospital system.  Work collaboratively with staff and leadership to design and implement improvements across hospitals via risk prediction models and value-metric reporting.  Participate in clinical meetings and present findings to hospital leadership.  Act as a lead in absence of Director.  May manage direct reports (project managers).  Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree, or equivalent, in Health Administration, Healthcare Informatics or a related field
  • Six (6) years of healthcare, operations improvement, clinical or related experience, including some experience:
    • gathering, measuring, and interpreting large amounts of healthcare data;
    •  conducting systemic data analysis and information operations research;
    • managing inpatient healthcare records and hospital operations systems;
    • designing risk prediction models and value-metric reporting;
    • utilizing analytical and business management methods including PDSA, Lean, and TPS;
    • identifying strategies to achieve operational improvement goals;
    • collecting and presenting data from clinical systems and technologies such as Cerner, Cognos, and EPIC.
