UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a full time 3-D Printing Technologist to support their team at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

This position will work Monday-Friday daylight hours with occassional travel to UPMC Children's Hospital as needed.

Are you interested in being a part of a cutting-edge team responsible for the development of anatomic models and surgical guides to improve patient care?  The 3D Printing Technologist will support the program’s operational needs to ensure the lab produces quality 3D models while maintaining compliance with all policies and regulatory requirements.


  • Under the direction of the physician Medical Director, the incumbent will serve as support staff for the 3D Printing Program within UPMC.
  • Works independently and as part of a team.
  • Balances multiple tasks at once in a fast-paced and deadline-driven work environment.
  • Adheres to processes and procedures within the 3D Printing Program?s Quality Management System.
  • Maintains clean and safe lab environments, documenting compliance, and assisting with ordering and stocking supplies.
  • Processes new requests including review and synthesis of the medical record and medical imaging.
  • Operates, troubleshoots, and maintains 3D printers and related equipment within UPMC.
  • Segments relevant anatomy from clinical imaging data (e.g. CT and MRI) and generating patient-specific 3D printed models.
  • Prepare and print 3D files using a variety printing modalities.
  • Provides post-processing and inspecting of 3D printed parts.
  • Packages, labels, and distributes finished parts throughout the UPMC Hospital Network.



  • Must have a bachelors or associate degree in a life science or manufacturing field
  •  Familiarity with 3D printing technologies and their applications
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well, both orally and in written formPreferred
  •  In-depth knowledge and experience with various additive manufacturing processes
  •  Familiarity with human anatomy
  •  Experience with a variety of software platforms used for post processing medical imaging data
  •  Previous experience working within Quality Management Systems including drafting work instructions, standard operating procedures, and IQ/OQ/PQ documents
  •  Accreditation by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) preferred
