The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Description

UPMC Neurosurgery with locations in Harrisburg and Fredericksburg is in need of a Nurse Navigator (RN) for their Spine Program/Patients. UPMC Neurosurgery is a growing specialty at UPMC, currently with 3 surgeons and 4 advanced practice providers. They will be adding 2 providers within the next year. The Nurse Navigator (RN) would join a growing nursing team as well with a friendly, respectful culture focusing on patient care and customer service.

Hours: No weekends!! No Holidays!! No on-call! Monday - Friday 8am-4:30pm

The Nurse Navigator will function as a member of an interdisciplinary team, providing expert care related to spine care therapy, wellness, prevention, illness, and rehabilitation.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the spine patient from their first visit through post-surgery or alternative treatments, pain management, physical therapy, etc.
  • Functions as an advocate for the patient and their family and acts as a liaison for resources and services
  • Serves as a clinical resource and consultant to members of the healthcare team and provides staff development
  • Participates in the evaluation of patient care and specialty services and programs through quality improvement activities
  • Education focus with the patient i.e. spine care, back exercises, etc.
  • Uses all components of the nursing process, to provide comprehensive nursing care, support and education to patients and their families during screening and diagnostic tests, treatment, recovery, and rehabilitation.
  • Participates in the evaluation of patient care and programs through quality improvement activities. Identifies and coordinates performance improvement activities, including monitoring, evaluation, and development of appropriate outcomes; participates in processes to implement change.
  • Integrates current research findings and technology into practice, performance improvement, and education as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates UPMC's commitment to service excellence by understanding the needs of patients, their families, physicians and co-workers and doing what is required the first time, every time by being responsible, sensitive, accurate, timely, coordinated and thorough
  • Assesses and addresses the educational needs of individual patients and members of the community as a whole, in regard to health issues with an emphasis on specialty practice. Participates in the evaluation and development of patient education materials and provides individualized teaching based on needs of the patients and the community.
  • Provides staff development and serves as a clinical resource and consultant to members of the interdisciplinary team, identifying additional resources as needed.
  • Works as a team member to plan, develop, market and implement community health and wellness educational programming and health care services, with an emphasis on specialty care.

 

Qualifications

  • RN with Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • 3 - 5 years of current clinical experience (Neurology, Neurosurgery, and/or Spine care)
  • Must be self-directed and possess strong leadership and communication skills.  


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Registered Nurse currently licensed in the practicing state.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
