Description

Job Summary:
Manager of Finance will conduct accounting functions related to insurance accounting and reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) by submitting financial reports and forecasts to the Insurance Division management, external auditors and external regulators.  In addition to accounting and reporting efforts, conduct and document complex financial analysis projects. The role will oversee the team’s Financial Analysts on a day-to-day basis and provide instructions, guidance, education and supervision for the team.  This is a hybrid role, requiring two days in-office per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the recording, classifying, and summarizing financial transactions and events in accordance with GAAP and SAP.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of external financial reporting deliverables, including quarterly/annual statutory filings, audited statutory financial statements, and other ad-hoc report requests.
  • Support of the annual external audit and ownership of the review and completion of the audited statutory financial statements.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly Risk Based Capital (RBC) projections and the preparation of proforma financial statements, as requested by Management.  
  • Coordinating with the UPMC Corporate Treasury team with the overall cashflow from the Insurance Services Division from the regulated entities
  • Perform complex statistical, cost, and financial analysis of data reported.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis on competitor financial data
  • Develop financial reports for forecasting, trending and results analysis.
  • Implement financial reporting, systems, and process improvements to ensure best practices amongst GAAP and SAP reporting requirements.
  • Interpret financial transactions and events for users who must make economic or business decisions.
  • Responsible for managing and mentoring the Financial Analysts or administrative staff.
  • *Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • *Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related business field required.  
  • A Master's degree or CPA license and five years of experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum of six years of related work experience required.
  • Minimum of one year managerial or supervisory experience required.
  • Experience in the Insurance industry preferred.
  • Excellent planning, communication, documentation, organizational, analytical, and problem solving abilities.
  • Prior experience leading/supervising staff preferred.
  • Microsoft Office spreadsheet application required, and PeopleSoft General Ledger proficiency preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, and forge strong interpersonal relationships within the department, with other departments, and with external audiences.
  • Attention to detail is critical to the success of this position.
  • 3 – 5 years in GAAP or Statutory Accounting/Reporting preferred.
  • 3 – 5 years in the Health or Property & Casualty Insurance Industry preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • CPA/MBA preferred
