Description
Under the direction of the Office Manager, the Interpreter Liaison will assure proper interpretation of communication between the patient and family and any other UPMC employee, provider, or staff during their office visit or by phone. This will include general verbal exchange, medical/surgical/referral details, written forms and educational materials. The Interpreter Liaison will communicate any issues to be addressed to the Office Manager and will assist in finding a solution. This is an on site position. No remote work.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain a close working relationship with the physician and staff representatives for each clinical service receiving international patients.
- Assist in communicating any financial information to the patient correctly and clearly.
- Verbally translate all educational materials, practice forms and pertinent literature for the patient.
- Translate and send correspondence between appropriate UPMC physicians and referring physician of the patient.
- Establish and maintain contact with existing and potential international program contacts.
- Assist with outpatient office hours including chart prep, patient liaison/concierge services, answering phones, scheduling appointments and completing forms.
- Strictly adheres to UPMCHS patient confidentiality policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred. In the event of a native speaker, he or she must have been educated in that foreign country.
- Three years in a healthcare environment is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language, as well as the target language are required.
- Must demonstrate a high degree of professionalism at all times and must be able to interact with individuals on all levels and from various countries.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
