Under the general direction of the Sr. Director, Patient Access/Revenue Cycle, responsible for analyzing and evaluation of clients' business environments and works with Information Services Staff, as appropriate, and client professionals to develop requirements for information technology solutions related to the business operations. Designs, develops, implements and supports solutions in both clinical and financial environments working with a broad spectrum of UPMC health system personnel. This includes clinical professionals, physicians, business personnel and personnel from software products and service providers.


  • Design and document system level and end user level procedures to support business applications.
  • Assures quality of information technology solutions through business case and application level testing; validates test results to initial business needs
  • Develops information technology solutions in component based, custom development and/or package system environments
  • Protects the integrity and confidentiality of all data and information through physical and electronic measures.
  • Evaluates and documents client needs and all aspects of business processes both operational and financial, including current process analysis; and proposed revisions to optimize business processes.
  • Assists with the design and documentation of business/system functional requirements in formats to facilitate the development of deliverables such as request for Proposals and/or Information, custom development efforts, project based planning documents such as scope documents and client services communication.
  • Works with ISD staff, clients and/or vendors to evaluate technology solutions including both packaged system solutions and custom development application and component development options.
  • Provide service according to the expectations of eRecord team policies/procedures and standards developed around the eRecord for client departments.


  • Bachelor's degree in administration, finance, or related field with 1 years of relevant experience
  • OR High School Diploma/GED with 3 years of relevant experience required.
  • Previous Claims experience is highly preferred
  • Strong presentation abilities as this position does provide training to new staff
  • Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot revenue cycle issues (payor, claim, Epic, etc.)
  • Strong computer skills required, with expert knowledge in Word, Excel and EpicCare/eRecord preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment a must.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, and forge strong interpersonal relationships within the department, with other departments, and with external audiences.
  • Attention to detail is critical to the success of this position.
  • Excellent planning, communication, documentation, organizational, analytical, and problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively approach problem solving.
  • Ability to re-engineer processes to positively impact productivity in terms of timeliness and accuracy.
  • Knowledge and good understanding of all products and benefit designs of UPMC Health.
  • Knowledge of clinical workflow and JCAHO and DOH regulations are preferred.
  • Available to work overtime if required.
