Description

Purpose:
UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation is embarking on its first comprehensive campaign, This Moment. With a focus on raising philanthropic dollars to support the people and programs of UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, the Foundation is looking for a new member to join the Development team. The Associate Gifts Officer position is a front-line fundraising role focused on donors with the capacity to make contributions at the $10,000 to $500,000 level. This position will be responsible for building a portfolio and forging strong working partnerships with medical and nursing staff, and research faculty to identify prospects. The Associate Gifts Officer will develop cultivation and solicitation strategies with the goal of soliciting prospects for commitments at the $10,000 level and above within 18 months of identification. On an annual basis, this position will raise over $1M. This position will work strategically to coordinate prospect and donor contacts as appropriate with the Foundation President, Vice President of Development, Development team leadership, and other senior staff, volunteers and Hospital leadership and senior medical, nursing and research faculty.

Responsibilities:

  • Represent the UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation in building relationships with donors that will generate significant philanthropic support for strategic initiatives to advance the Hospital's mission.
  • Develop strong working relationships of trust and confidence with clinical and research faculty.
  • Log all relationship information in the Raisers Edge database in compliance with the Hospital's HIPPA policies.
  • Assure the prompt gift acceptance, deposit, acknowledgement and recognition of gifts.
  • Demonstrate through behavior hospital's core values of integrity, care, balance, excellence, stewardship, and teamwork
  • This position primarily focuses on individuals, families, and family foundations making gifts through a combination of major gifts and planned giving intentions.
  • Build a portfolio of 120-150 major and planned giving prospects through initial discovery outreach.
  • Secure over $1 million while also working to secure planned giving intentions.
  • Personally contact, develop, assist, and steward prospects to develop individualized giving plans that maximize tax savings, personal philanthropic objectives, and gifts to the Foundation
  • Assist prospective donors and their advisors in clarifying philanthropic and personal objectives, recording, and retaining that information.
  • Support donor retention efforts through daily thank you calls.
  • Follow up on warm leads from those who self-identify as having planned gift interest.
  • Complete proper and appropriate estate plan, endowment, and other gift planning agreements.
  • Travel on an as needed basis for personal solicitation, qualification, and stewardship. Engage and steward donors through personal face to face visits. Some evening phone calling necessary.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, marketing, sales, business or related field required.
  • 4 - 6 years of experience in a non-profit setting preferred; or experience in sales, marketing and communication in the for-profit environment.
  • Experience in a health care setting preferred; experience in an academic medical center desired.
  • A track record of securing major and planned gifts from identification through cultivation and solicitation preferred.
  • Knowledge of Raiser's Edge donor tracking software preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

  •  Excellent interpersonal skills, written communication skills and the ability to work with many different people such as donors, volunteers, trustees and staff.
  • Team oriented; works well within group situations.
  • Must be very organized, analytical and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Computer literacy.
  • High level of enthusiasm, initiative, motivation and self-direction.
  • Must be knowledgeable about and capable of articulating verbally and in writing the Hospital's mission, vision and priorities
