The Medical Equipment IT Specialist (MEITS) is responsible for the day-to-day support of Network Connectivity and Security for patient related medical devices used throughout UPMC. Including but not limited to; connectivity issue resolution, installation, evaluation, and updating of devices. The Medical Equipment IT Specialist (MEITS) works under general supervision and relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned tasks and goals. Provides technical support, orientation, and training to all other levels of technical staff and equipment operators.
This position will work Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:00pm but hours can be adjusted if needed to meet business demands. There may be need for possible travel to other UPMC facilities. Working from home will also be offered after the training period is over.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical hands on, remote, and phone support related to all technical staff levels.Provide project management support for system installation, and integration initiatives for network connected medical equipment.Acts as a liaison between Biotronics and UPMC IT support teams as necessary.
- Able to establish priorities and escalate tasks to the appropriate personnel or work independently as necessary.Provide equipment application support to equipment operators as required.Maintain records of all work activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System and Kronos system.
- Understand, implement, and provide training on specific regulatory requirements.Participates in on-call rotation as indicated by director.Takes ownership of projects and completes them with moderate supervision. Identifies issues affecting work progress and recommends solutions.
- Provides flexibility with work shift schedules as deemed necessary in support of system implementation and upgrades, scheduled/unscheduled IT change control events, and technical troubleshooting to facilitate technical and manufacturer support staff.Build and maintain effective work relationships with all levels of personnel both internally and externally.
- Provide support for cybersecurity and related activity for all networked medical devices inclusive but not limited to firewall exception management, OS patch updates, as required. Maintains awareness of all scheduled and emergent change control activity affecting connected medical devices under Biotronics management.
- Participates in the UPMC Enterprise Architecture Technology Review workflow inclusive of approvals, manufacture data collection, and security plan creation and management.Coaches and mentors less experienced team members. Travel between UPMC sites, hospital affiliates, and institutions for services with BioTronics Inc is required as needed. Use personal vehicle may be required.

Qualifications
- Associate degree in Biomedical/Electronics/Computer/Information Technology/Cyber Security or an equivalent technical discipline is preferred
- BMET apprenticeship/journeyman papers will be considered
- Equivalent military experience and/or equivalent hospital or manufacturers service experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree
- Typically has five (5) years of direct hospital, manufacturer, or industry experience working in an IT related discipline or three (3) years of experience and one (1) or more industry recognized certifications; inclusive of A+, Network+, Security+, Cisco CCNA, or similar may be considered
- Superior knowledge of information systems, networking, computer, server management, storage hardware and network security
- Superior computer skills as required to operate a Computerized Maintenance Management System and common office software including but not limited to MS Office
- Basic knowledge of DICOM and HL7 communications is desirable
- Strong customer service, communication, and analytical skill set
- May in the course of duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with the medications is allowed.
