UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Sr. Professional Staff Nurse II, BSN (FLEX Full-Time)- Interventional Radiology

Description

UPMC Mercy's Interventional Radiology department is seeking a flex full-time, experienced RN, who has a nursing background preferably in Critical Care, NIHSS certification, and a strong skill set administering intravenous catheters.


The RN in this position will work mainly daylight, with some rotating shifts required. Additionally, the RN will be required for weekend call on a rotating basis. Flex full-time staff are required to work at least 28 hours per pay period, but have the flexibility to work full-time hours if staffing needs require it. 

Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience. Title and salary as shown reflect that of a Senior Professional Staff Nurse II, BSN.

This Professional Staff Nurse position primarily works in our Neuro Procedure and Peripheral Angio Procedure rooms, but also supports the entire radiology department as needed. Some commonly performed procedures include diagnostic cerebral angiograms, carotid stents, embolizations/coilings, TCARs, emergent thrombectomies, biopsies, angiograms w/wo embolizations, nephrostomy tube placements, pleurx catheter placements, IVC filter placements/removals, peg tube placements/exchanges, tunneled dialysis catheter placements/removals, and TIPS.

The Senior Professional Staff Nurse provides highly competent patient care and treatment while demonstrating empathy and a passion for learning. A role that requires independent judgment, fluent communication, and candid partnership, the Senior Professional Staff Nurse establishes relationships with physicians, other care providers, patients, and patients’ families to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care.

A Senior Professional Staff Nurse and a member of the care delivery team, you will set the standards for the level and quality of nursing care and possess authority and accountability for its provision. At all times, you will exemplify a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years experience for Senior Professional Staff Nurse II title.

  • Zero to two years of experience for Professional Staff Nurse title.

  • BSN preferred.

  • Completion of annual contribution as set forth through UPMC's My Nursing Career Ladder.UPMC approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/promotion and must be maintained for Senior Professional Staff Nurse II title.

    • Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held.

    • If a BSN is held, a Masters degree in a related field may be substituted in lieu of Certification.

  • The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.

  • They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.

  • Must obtain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on a Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation to be promoted to Senior Professional Staff Nurse II level.

  • Must maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on annual performance evaluation to maintain Senior Professional Staff Nurse II status.

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.

  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.

  • Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.

  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.

  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity.

  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse either in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located.

  • Completion of annual contribution as set forth through UPMC's My Nursing Career Ladder for Senior title.

  • UPMC approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/promotion and must be maintained for Senior title.

    • Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held.

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) OR Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

  • Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
