Description

Purpose:
The UPMC Eye Center Community Service Coordinator, under the direction of the Community Service Director, supports the department's mission to provide eyecare services to the underserved populations in and around Pittsburgh. The Coordinator provides administrative support needed to run the community service programs, coordinates with staff at community care sites, partner organizations, department administration and with volunteers including medical students, residents, attending physicians and staff. They work to ensure that community service events are appropriately provisioned with supplies and working equipment. Along with the department Patient Navigator they ensure that individual patients served by the program receive follow-up care. They track program outcomes with an eye toward programmatic improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides support for and meets regularly with the Director concerning community service activities and the status of projects.
  • Identifies and evaluates areas and methods for improvement and makes recommendations to the Director.
  • Assists in program-level workflow development.
  • Works with staff at community care sites to schedule events and with volunteers -- medical students, residents, attending physicians and staff -- to ensure that these events are appropriately staffed.
  • Works with partner organizations outside of UPMC Eye Center to coordinate collaboration on events that include eye care and other community services.
  • Organizes necessary meetings of stakeholders before and after events.
  • Ensures that supplies and equipment are available for events.
  • Inventories and inspects equipment.
  • Receives and responds to reports of supply shortages and equipment breakage.
  • Works with department administration to order supplies and coordinate equipment repairs.
  • Works with the department Patient Navigator and other department staff to track individual patients served at events and ensure that follow up care is arranged and completed.
  • Tracks and reports on program outcomes including number of patients served, follow through measures, costs as well as patient and volunteer satisfaction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years of experience in an increasingly responsible administrative support role.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and computer applications.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with all categories of stakeholders.
  • Ability to use discretion and independent judgment
  • Cultural competency and the ability to be sensitive to diverse backgrounds and set aside personal opinions and implicit biases. This includes their basic principles, values, ethics, ways of thinking, customs, practices, and their impact on human culture.
  • Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook. Strong spreadsheet skills and organization skills.
  • Experience with programmatic improvement using a Plan-Do-Study-Act or similar framework.
