UPMC Community Pharmacies is looking for an outgoing and motivated full time Lead Pharmacist to join their dedicated team at Passavant Hospital, Outpatient Pharmacy.
This role will work 8:30 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities:
- Develop and grow a robust Meds to Beds program throughout the hospital, servicing many units. Expand reach of services into outlying outpatient clinics.
- Develop process for capture of employee prescriptions including outreach to units, clinics, and surrounding areas. Maintain collaborative, positive relationships with providers, management, and staff. Consult with Pharmacy Manager and Directors as appropriate
- Participate in departmental quality improvement and cost-reduction initiatives, as well as UPMC Rx Express to continually improve and evaluate pharmaceutical care as reflected by operational and patient care indicators
- Supervise the daily activities and assist in training and education of pharmacy technicians and student interns, direct and schedule personnel.
- Coach and mentor staff through continuous feedback, positive discipline, and performance evaluations.
- Enforce workflow guidelines, policies, procedures, and other tools to maximize productivity and standardize practices in the department. Ensure all pharmacy staff are aware of pharmacy policies and procedures.
- Maintain the financial accountability of the department via analysis of monthly income statements, dashboards, inventory management, and proper third-party payer utilization, following established procedures.
- Complete all staff competencies and perform duties of staff pharmacist as listed below.
- Ensure the timely provision of cost-effective drug therapy contributing to optimal patient outcomes. Ensure proper technique is used in the preparation of drugs.
- Evaluate patient medication orders for suitability of drug selection, dosage, and other considerations such as patient age, weight, sex, organ function, diagnosis and allergies. Apply pharmacokinetic principles when appropriate. Consult with prescriber for corrections or clarifications if needed.
- Assure that all pharmacy operations and records storage follow federal, state and department regulations. Report adverse drug events and HIPAA issues in line with established procedures.
- Maintain professional competency through participation in continuing education and staff development programs.
- Provide experimental education for present and future health care practitioners, and support drug-related research.
Qualifications
- B.S. degree or a Pharm.D. degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy required.
- Post licensure experience preferred.
