UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is currently looking for a Manager; Radiation Oncology Coding Operations (Radiation Therapist) to support the Department of Radiation Oncology & Network across the greater Pittsburgh region.  This position will work a Regular Full Time fully REMOTE schedule Monday through Friday.

The Manager of Coding is responsible for the standardization of Radiation Oncology Coding and Billing operations throughout the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center Radiation Oncology sites. The Manager collaborates with the site managers to bring standardized coding and billing processes according to all regulatory agencies. The manager provides coding guidance and support to both radiation and medical oncology sites. Additional areas of responsibilities include the coordination of billing operations, quality management, regulatory affairs, continuing education, and fiscal responsibilities, and providing coding and billing guidance to the overall UPMC Hillman Cancer Center network. The Manager identifies opportunities to improve patient safety and participates in projects and programs designed to reduce errors, improve processes, and to create a mindfulness culture for patient safety.

Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Operations management. Development and maintenance of standardized coding guidance and documentation requirements for Radiation Oncology procedural services.B. Evaluate new and existing services to ensure accurate coding and ensure compliance to current coding and reimbursement standards, in order to compliantly optimize revenue.C. In collaboration with Department and ISD development workgroups, designs and implements functionalities in Radiation Oncology EHRs for patient demographics, clinical information, and charge capture, including validation testing of these systems under the direction of ISD.D. Collaborates with ISD developers and Radiation Oncology Systems Specialist, in the analysis of information systems dependencies, in order to assure Radiation Oncology functionality in Radiation Oncology applications, department workflow and clinical operations.
  • Continuing Education Program management. Responsible for updating and maintaining staff educational references pertaining to coding and billing for the radiation oncology network. Performs staff and provider training to help educate staff on correct billing and coding practices in compliance with payer and governmental regulatory requirements and best practice standards.
  • Quality Assurance/CQI Program Management A. Performs data quality reviews on closed medical records to validate CPT codes across the Radiation Oncology Network. Responsible for designing targeted reviews, as needed. Responsible for the analysis of data collected, and identifying trends related to Network sites or providers. B. Prepares reports summarizing quality review analysis, and ensures communication of results. C. Performs regular reviews of procedural coding identifying CPT and HCPCS Level II codes which have been deleted, added or replaced; assigning CPT and HCPCS specific codes when appropriate; identifying description changes; and ensuring the nomenclature reflects the procedures performed, for free-standing and hospital-based sites. Ensures the appropriate crosswalks exist between the various information and billing systems.
  • Regulatory Affairs ManagementA. Responsible for researching payer and governmental regulatory guidance, and updating Radiation Oncology Administration on requirements in order to introduce best practices and ensure regulatory compliance.B. Reviews national and commercial payer medical policies pertinent to Network radiation oncology services, integrates this information into practice system to ensure efficient and optimized reimbursement.
  • Fiscal Responsibilities A. Assists in reviews of financial and internal information to determine if Department practice activity is consistent with expected results in terms of volume and revenue.B. Develops, implements, and maintains charge capture functionality via the Department's various information and charge capture systems. Acts as primary central resource to staff for the patient information and charge capture aspects of these information systems.C. Serves as Department resource in coordination and support of de-centralized registration, insurance verification, point-of-service co-payment collections, financial counseling, and medical records activity.D. Collaborates with the UPMC HS Billing Offices in the management of payer denials and appeals, including research of supporting clinical documentation, preparation of medical necessity statements, and collection of supporting medical records. Provides direct support to CCBO for high-dollar reimbursement issues.
  • Clinical Operations Management (cont)E. Maintains Department CDMs by incorporating new charges/services identified by the departments, third party changes, CMS requirements, and coding updates.F. Serves as Radiation Oncology liaison with UPMC Compliance, Billing, and Finance Departments to achieve UPMCHS standards and objectives.G. Provides supervision and direction to the Radiation Oncology Data Coordinator and Analyst.H. Serves as primary Data Administrator for ARIA

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Graduate from certified Radiation Oncology Program with a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Radiation Therapist and three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity preferred.
  • Experience in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Strong background in Radiation Oncology coding and billing.
  • Radiology coding experience preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and good problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.

  • ARRT Certificate
  • Act 34
