Operating Room Assistant

Full-time, Day shift, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Rotation to every 3rd or 4th weekend

This position has a minimum start rate of $13.38.

Purpose:
Performing necessary duties under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs all assigned housekeeping duties to ensure a clean, neat, and sanitary work area within the Surgery Center.
  • Runs errands as required. Carries out other related activities as requested.
  • Employee complies with established occupation exposure policies.
  • Completes ongoing age-specific competency validation via defined mechanisms
  • Runs maintains, and tests autoclaves appropriately. Performs all duties relative to decontamination, preparation, sterilization, and dispatch acceptably and satisfactorily according to established departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the transfer of patients onto beds or litter and transports patients as necessary.
  • Processes and cares for instruments and other equipment and prepares them for sterilization or storage appropriately.
  • Supports Surgery Center-based quality assessment activities by actively participating in the continuous performance improvement process.
  • Prepares and assembles special items or packs to meet the needs of the OR.
  • Assists with the needs of the Anesthesia department.
  • Checks for outdated supplies reorders, and stocks areas as necessary.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in response to unexpected changes in the workload and/or emergencies.
  • Maintains proper traffic control in the OR suite.
  • Assists with orientation of new employees as needed.
  • Maintains working knowledge of instruments and equipment and their appropriate locations.

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Satisfactory completion of an approved training program for nursing assistants
  • Must maintain CPR certification


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR is required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
