UPMC is hiring a Surgical Dental Assistant to join our team!
Responsibilities:
- Greet and Seat Patients
- Assist in the clinic and hospital OR and Satellite locations including proper room set up, chair side assisting and clean up in accordance with hospital and clinic standards
- Give and receive accurate and complete information to parents and doctors while displaying professionalism
- Take and develop radiographs of a consistent, good diagnostic quality for review by dentist.
- Pass instruments to the Dentist/Orthodontist during Dental/Orthodontic examinations and procedures using four handed dental assisting techniques. Efficiently pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons, hold retractors, and instruments, and suction during dental procedures
- Mix various cements and materials and place topical anesthetics and rubber dams on patients
- Take and pour study model impressions, trim and finish cases, mail and receive appliances and models from laboratories
- Perform all necessary housekeeping procedures including keeping all work areas properly stocked.
- Manage spills and patient accidents
- Maintain equipment and supplies with oversight from the Clinic Coordinator.
- Maintain patient vital signs during in office sedation procedures.
- Assist in teaching Dental Residents in clinical and operating room setting
- Ensure intra office sedation guidelines are met
- Educate parents on nutrition and per-post op instructions
- Train incoming staff in a surgical setting
- Assist in transportation of patients, EVS and instruments
- Ability to work with special needs children in a high-volume practice
- Under supervision of Dentist, performs advanced tasks on a regular basis in an operating room.
- Works on complex surgical procedures
- Help position patient on OR table
- Arrange sterile set up for surgical procedures, pass instruments to Dentist and prepare sterile supplies; assist in cleanup of instruments and operating room and equipment
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Completed a structure dental assisting program in four-handed Dentistry
- 5 years of Dental experience required
- Certification in field preferred
- Graduate of Dental Assisting School preferred
- Experience and skill with standard four-handed dentistry techniques
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Dental Radiology Certificate
- Act 34
