The Medical Assistant Trainee position allows you to learn about being an MA! You will work side-by-side with Medical Assistants and learn details of this exciting position. We have various training sites available: WAM Monroeville, PIH Murrysville, RFT Aspinwall, Internal Medicine Association of Cranberry, Solano and Kokales in Oakland, OBGYN Associates at Magee Hospital, OBGYN Associates in Fox Chapel, Gastroenterology at Mercy Hospital, Renal/Nephrology at the University Center Clinic in Oakland, Geriatrics Senior Care at UPMC Shadyside, UPMC Mercy ENT, UPMC Downtown, Heath Center Associates, Latterman Family Health Center in McKeesport, St Margaret New Kensington Family Health Center, Lindenbaum, Perryman and Associates, Gateway Medical in Carnegie, and UPMC Primary Care in Greentree.
Responsibilities:
- After successful completion of the Medical Assistant training program, will be placed in a Medical Assistant I position. While completing the Medical Assistant training program, performs various tasks and responsibilities under supervision including the following:
- Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance, Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other state and federal regulations.
- Obtain lab and x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Complete forms and requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments. Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics. Prepare and manage charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately. Performs other front office responsibilities as required.
- Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol. Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control. Clean according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records. Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
- Check schedules and organize patient flow. Accompany patients to exam/procedure room. Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc. Collect patient information and history, take vitals, and perform screenings per provider guidelines. Relay instructions to patients and families.
- Answer calls and provide pertinent information including patient education as directed.
- Perform phlebotomy, EKG's, and level one labs. Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure. Assist physicians with procedures. Document patient information into the medical record.
- Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data. Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current enrollment in an MA Training Program preferred
