Research Associate | The Psychiatry and Neuroscience Laboratory (PyNeL)

Description

The Psychiatry and Neuroscience Laboratory (PyNeL) seeks to better understand the neurobiological, cognitive, and social dysfunctions of schizophrenia and other major psychiatric disorders using MRI, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, and high density (hd)-EEG during sleep and wakefulness. In this position, the Research Associate will be participating in several research activities, including performing high-density (hd)-EEG as well as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) with simultaneous hd-EEG, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) in healthy subjects, psychiatric patients, as well as individual at high risk for mental illness.  These studies are part of NIMH-funded grants investigating the neural mechanisms and circuits underlying cognitive deficits in individuals at risk for or recently diagnosed with psychotic disorders. With this position, you will be asked to assist in the execution of research protocols and services. 

This position is grant funded.

Responsibilities:

  • Contact and schedule potential participants from a designated pool of individuals who have agreed to be contacted for research studies.
  • Conduct subject searches to locate subjects who are unable to be contacted.
  • Explain research protocol and obtain informed consent from participants.
  • Conduct on-line and/or library searches as needed by the PI as necessary.
  • Perform phone interviews for research project protocol(s) as needed.
  • Maintain and update subject information database.
  • Conduct interviews with research participants under supervision as needed.
  • Flexible schedule with availability to run research studies on evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Counseling, Sociology or related research field or current enrollment in a related Bachelor's Degree program with direct experience in a research environment required.
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.
  • Prior related work experience in a research setting preferred.
  • Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
