Research Specialist | The Affective Neuroscience and Developmental Psychopathology Lab

Description

The Affective Neuroscience and Developmental Psychopathology Lab is a dynamic, busy clinical neuroscience lab with a team atmosphere and a culture of respect and inclusivity. Our mission is meaningful and important: to reduce suffering by investigating the brain mechanisms relevant to the pathophysiology and treatment of depression, suicidality, and related problems in adolescents and young adults. The lab’s several ongoing studies include a variety of techniques, including neuroimaging, neuromodulation, ambulatory assessment, and pharmacologic manipulation. 

The Research Specialist will be working on clinical neuroscience studies in adolescents and young adults. This work will be strongly participant-facing. The activities will involve performing research procedures, recruiting participants, scheduling and planning study visits, tracking progress, helping with data management, ensuring good documentation, and coordinating with other labs and research centers. The Research Specialist will need to work independently, get along well with others, take a conscientious approach, behave respectfully to all, enjoy solving problems and devising innovations, and have high standards for quality of data and safety of participants. This person will be part of a team of 7-8 Research Assistants, a Data Manager, Postdoctoral Fellows, and a Clinical Research Coordinator, and they’ll contribute to creating a productive, positive, high-quality culture in the studies and in the lab generally. 

The ideal candidate will be conscientious, organized, independent, detail oriented, motivated, a good problem solver, able to anticipate challenges, flexible, optimistic, interested in improving quality, persistent, and able to work effectively with others. They should enjoy a busy, exciting, team-based atmosphere where there are a variety of work activities (and a variety of data types). They should be open to learning new software and techniques.

This position is grant funded.


Responsibilities:

  • Independently execute job functions for research protocol(s) including recruitment, scheduling appointments, obtaining written consent forms, collecting data by conducting lab and virtual visits involving techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), clinical interviews, digital phenotyping, and questionnaires. Contribute to data management, data analyses, and quality checking. Contribute to lab products such as papers and presentations.
  • Collaborate with senior research personnel regarding recruitment, data collection, outcomes of interviews, reports according to the needs of the study.
  • Maintain proper documentation, work independently yet collaboratively, apply a conscientious approach with an emphasis on initiative and innovation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Psychology, Neuroscience, Sociology or related research field.
  • Minimum of one year of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting is required. Post-baccalaureate experience strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.
  • Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.
  • Experience with MRI, ecological momentary assessment, clinical interviews preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
