Advanced Practice Providers at UPMC
Integral to UPMC’s care delivery team, Advanced Practice Providers (including nurse anesthetists, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, and physician assistants) play a vital role in delivering expert care within collaborative, multidisciplinary teams. We prioritize the growth of our APP staff through innovative educational strategies for newcomers and ongoing professional training, fostering leadership development for existing APPs. With a dedicated team of 3,600 APPs, UPMC is committed to advancing collaborative practice models and supporting research that propels innovative and progressive health care delivery systems.
Physician Assistant
Physician assistants play a vital role in integrated medicine, working closely with best-in-class physicians to diagnose and treat illnesses, prescribe medications, and provide primary, specialty, and acute care to our communities.
Nurse Practitioner
Whether providing primary care or bedside care, nurse practitioners are trusted members of patient care teams who practice independently or under physician supervision to diagnose and treat illnesses and prescribe medications.
Nurse Anesthetist
Nurse anesthetists play a crucial role in the UPMC patient experience by administering anesthetics to patients before, during, and after surgery to ensure pain-free procedures, comfortable recoveries, and optimal outcomes.
Nurse-Midwife
Specializing in natural reproductive health and childbirth techniques, nurse-midwives collaborate with UPMC’s gynecological and labor and delivery teams.
