Salary Range: $ 16.64-25.42 USD
The Hospice House Caregiver provides personal care, end of life care, and light housekeeping to the hospice guests in the Hospice House. This is a Casual position. Hours and shifts will vary depending on the needs of the facility. Day, Evening, Night, and 12-hour shift availability is preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Provide nutrition by preparing meals and assisting with food and fluid and assisting patient with oral intake.
- Provide emotional support to the guest by listening and showing empathy and understanding.
- Promote good personal hygiene by assisting the guest with bathing, shampooing, mouth care, nail care, and other personal care as appropriate.
- Maintain a safe, clean guest environment through observation and the performance of light household chores.
- Provide maximum comfort to the guest through proper positioning and bedmaking.
- Provide physical and emotional support to guests and families during the dying process.
- Utilize standard blood and body fluid precautions and provide care by agency quality and productivity standards.
- Attend agency in-service programs and continuing education programs to enhance job knowledge and comply with agency regulations.
- Make pertinent observations and communicate appropriately with the Hospice Interdisciplinary team promptly.
- Demonstrate understanding of hospice philosophy of care.
- Perform specialized tasks such as but not limited to simple catheter care, application of simple dressings to minor wound areas, and ostomy care.
- Assist guests with medications that are ordinarily self-administered.
- Maintain guest records and related reports.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding guest, staff, and Hospice House matters.
- Recognize guest emergencies and implement emergency procedures.
Qualifications:
- One year relevant experience required.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills are required.
- Ability to work independently without constant, direct supervision is required.
- Problem solving and critical thinking skills are required.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 33
