Generous Sign-On Bonus:
- $15,000 with a two-year commitment for Graduate Nurses with less than one year of RN experience.
About 4B Orthopedics:
Our 4B Unit is a 30-bed orthopedic unit recognized as a Total Knee and Total Hip Center of Excellence. Patients from across the region trust us for advanced orthopedic care. This high-volume unit thrives on teamwork and collaboration with surgical and rehabilitation teams. Flexibility is key—and we extend that same flexibility to support your work-life balance. You’ll work in a fast-paced, supportive environment where every team member plays a vital role in helping patients recover and celebrate milestones in their post-operative journey.
We provide comprehensive orthopedic services for adult and geriatric patients, including minimally invasive total joint replacements (hip and knee), spinal surgery, foot and ankle procedures, hand surgery, and fracture care. Pain management is central to our approach, and while orthopedics is our primary focus, we also care for general medical-surgical patients as needed.

Responsibilities:
As a Graduate Nurse, you will:
- Apply the nursing process within a Relationship-Based Care framework to create a healing environment.
- Develop individualized care plans, demonstrate critical thinking, and communicate effectively with patients, families, and the care team.
- Provide education and support to patients and families, assist with transitions of care, and serve as a resource for students and new staff.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, shared governance, and evidence-based practice to enhance patient outcomes.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and respect while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
Qualifications:
- Experience Requirements:

Less than one year of nursing experience.
- Experience with rehabilitation and body mechanics preferred.

- Knowledge & Skills:
- Ability to provide age-appropriate care for patients on the assigned unit.
- Understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan.
- Ability to assess patient status, interpret data, and identify age-specific care needs.
- Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead others in applying the nursing process.
- Interpersonal & Professional Attributes:
- Ability to establish and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary staff, and patients/families.
- Capacity to work effectively in a complex environment and manage multiple/changing priorities.
- Demonstrates professionalism and accountability in all interactions.
- Technical & Physical Requirements:
- Ability to operate specialized equipment safely and effectively.
- Mobility, visual and manual dexterity.
- Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning patients.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse either in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located.
- Graduate nurses must complete licensure examination within FOUR MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first.
- Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until the results of the examination are known at which time it becomes null and void), UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within 4 months of their start date or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU.
