Part Time Daylight Nursing Assistant – 6 South

UPMC Passavant is hiring a Part Time Daylight Nursing Assistant to support our 6 South Surgical Oncology Unit

• Responsibilities:

  • Direct Patient Care:

    • Assist with activities of daily living (e.g., bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating patients).

    • Maintain a safe and clean environment to support patient recovery, including safety checks, cleaning equipment, changing linens, and organizing patient rooms and hallways.

    • Distribute supplies and equipment to facilitate patient care, perform messenger functions, order and stock supplies, and set up patient care equipment.

    • Provide patient nourishments, fill water pitchers, and deliver patient mail.

  • Nursing Core Responsibilities:

    • Perform UPMC nursing core tasks including blood glucose monitoring, weights, vital signs, input/output (I&O), specimen collection, Foley care, ADLs, point of care testing, telemetry monitor application, HAC & PSI prevention, urine specimen collection, restraint placement and removal, and ticket to ride.

    • Report changes in patient status to the RN and provide feedback on patient care.

  • Communication and Teamwork:

  • Unit Support:

    • Suggest and support departmental changes.

    • Assume responsibility for assignments and view challenges as opportunities.

    • Contribute to unit activities, such as responding to call lights, passing meal trays, and transporting patients.

    • Provide diversional activities to reduce or prevent restraint use.

    • Complete clerical functions and document in the medical record as required.

  • Professional Development:

    • Constructively receive feedback and direction.

    • Identify learning needs and take action to improve knowledge, skills, and performance.

    • Participate in self-review and seek assistance in planning and prioritizing activities as needed.

  • Safety and Compliance:

    • Report equipment malfunctions to the appropriate department.

    • Adhere strictly to all policies and practices related to patient care and hospital information.

    • Respond to emergent situations within the scope of the nursing assistant role.

    • Provide companionship and supervision to patients as required.

  • Additional Duties:

    • Perform in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors.

    • Undertake other duties as assigned.
