UPMC is looking for a full-time Senior Strategic Sourcing Manager.

This position works Monday- Friday, standard daylight hours. This is a hybrid position with 1-2 days per week required in office.

Purpose:
The Senior Strategic Sourcing Manager reflects the mission, vision, and values of UPMC, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. The Senior Strategic Sourcing Manager (Sr. SSM) will maintain and direct sourcing functions for assigned spend categories across UPMC supply chain and includes the following objectives: drive and deliver competitive advantage and cost savings for UPMC by managing the execution of a comprehensive category approach that includes in-depth global market analysis as part of the overall detailed strategic sourcing plan, establish a strategic category group structure and corresponding category strategies. Serves a key role in planning, managing, and measuring sourcing engagements and takes lead in working with organizational leadership on priority objectives to meet strategic priorities. This position is responsible for leading the respective sourcing team with a focus on helping the company meet enterprise-wide objectives, reduce risk, and deliver substantial cost savings. Responsibilities include managing, supervising, planning, and organizing the activities of the sourcing staff. Additionally, this role will be responsible to source for key business areas or product category. A primary objective will be to work collaboratively with internal UPMC leaders to capture business requirements, provide in-depth market analysis, and develop sourcing strategies and plans to deliver best in class value to the organization. The Sourcing to Pay Departmental mission is to ensure the preservation and improvement of the quality of patient care while reducing or maintaining costs and risks related to the procurement and the use of products and services at all UPMC business units and facilities through collaborative efforts and effective communication by a mode of service line steering teams and specialty sub-committees.

Responsibilities:

  • Consulting/Utilization Analysis
  • Lead and coordinate respective sourcing team activities.
  • Build a strong sourcing team and supervise, develop, and manage staff goals and objectives.
  • Build strong relationships with internal business owners to understand product and service requirements and develop strategic sourcing plans.
  • Assign sourcing projects within sourcing team appropriately and lead sourcing projects within assigned business areas/categories.
  • Lead, drive and deliver competitive advantage and cost savings for UPMC by managing the execution of a comprehensive commodity management approach that includes in-depth global market analysis as part of the overall detailed strategic sourcing plan.
  • Establish a strategic commodity group structure and corresponding category strategies, fiscal plans and performance metrics to monitor and execute UPMC requirements in the supply market and deliver the highest value through total cost of ownership solutions to the business.
  • Develop methods to track and analyze and drive improvement in cost, quality, delivery, reliability and responsiveness key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Serve as a key contact to interface with business leadership to develop collaborative service line and sourcing strategy. 
  • Maintain a partnership with shared services such as Legal, Risk, Insurance
  • Provide input for UPMC Strategic Sourcing policies and procedures.
  • Develop and document sourcing processes through work instructions, project dashboard and job aids in conjunction with senior leadership.
  • Foster and maintain key stakeholder relationships to reduce clinical variance through standardization and to ensure that effective spend management of the spend portfolio occurs at all levels of the organization and that business requirements and needs are met.
  • Lead the developing of new programs, training efforts, product trials, departmental or organization goals and projects, etc.
  • Identifies and supports product standardization initiatives across UPMC that aligns with quality/safety/financial goals.
  • Drive adoption of SCM technologies to enhance Sourcing’s performance in categorization, analytics, contracting.
  • Maintain compliance to regulatory requirements and UPMC policies.
  • Responsible for onboarding of new hires
  • Communication/Advocacy
  • Manages and edits communications and clinical literature research to support product utilization, product conversions and additions, trials and committee activities. 
  • Monitors, implements and support utilization of electronic product request system (MedApproved) across UPMC entities. 
  • Assists sourcing leads in preparing product and service utilization reports and updates.
  • Support end-users and Inventory and Logistics in remediation of supply availability disruptions (backorders/recalls). 
  • Participates and provides guidance during regular business reviews with key vendors and assesses vendor performance (score cards) and impact on UPMC operating goals. 
  • Promotes UPMC philosophy for implementing supply chain cost improvement initiatives, new product introductions and organizational goals.
  • Plans, coordinates and facilitates meetings, work groups, and committees within various levels of staffing and management.
  • Negotiations/Product Screening
  • Assist sourcing leads in establishing intermediary between vendors and end users, helping to screen and analyze new product introductions.
  • Participates and provide oversight to sourcing leads for Supply Chain initiated new product introductions, trials and product conversions.
  • Collaborate with Group Purchasing Organization(s) to identify cost savings opportunities, program initiatives and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • One of the following combinations of education and experience is required:
    • Bachelors degree in relevant fields. i.e. Supply Chain Management, Finance, Nursing, Health Care Management, or other healthcare related fields and 12 years of relevant experience.
    • Associates degree in relevant fields. i.e. Supply Chain Management, Finance, Nursing, Health Care Management, or other healthcare related fields and 14 years of relevant experience required.
    • High school diploma and 16 years of relevant experience
  • Previous supervisory or management experience required.
  • Understanding of financial analysis and quantitative/qualitative assessment data.
  • Advance skills in spreadsheet, word and presentation computer applications (PowerPoint).
  • Consulting or group presentation skills.
  • Ability to organize workload and set priorities.
  • Adept communication skills, negotiating skills a plus.
  • Deliver presentations to a variety of audiences at various levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate change and achieve savings goals
  • High level of expertise in UPMC’s toolset including 

    Office Suite, 

    Power BIo,  SmartSheeto, Aribao, Categorization and Analytics/Premier ABI
