Clinician, Endoscopy

Position Summary

The Endoscopy Clinician is a nurse leader who plays a vital role in fostering a culture of excellence, patient-centered care, and professional nursing practice. Reporting to the Unit Director or department leader, this position provides clinical leadership, staff development, operational oversight, and direct supervision of assigned team members.

The Clinician is responsible for hiring, onboarding, coaching, evaluating, and supporting staff while serving as a clinical expert and resource for the department. This role promotes quality outcomes, professional development, evidence-based practice, and continuous improvement efforts. The Clinician may also provide direct patient care and assume shift accountability as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and mentor nursing staff to support professional growth and exceptional patient care.
  • Conduct staff selection, hiring, onboarding, performance management, and employee evaluations.
  • Build positive working relationships across the healthcare team through collaboration, mentorship, and effective communication.
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful workplace and address issues related to professionalism, workplace conflict, and team engagement.
  • Serve as a role model for accountability, time management, and professional nursing practice.

Clinical Education & Professional Practice

  • Provide orientation, training, competency validation, and ongoing clinical education for staff.
  • Serve as a clinical expert and consultant for nursing practice questions and patient care needs.
  • Act as a preceptor and mentor for student nurses, nurse interns, graduate nurses, and experienced nursing staff.
  • Support the development of new preceptors and promote lifelong learning and professional growth.
  • Share knowledge and best practices across departments and healthcare teams.

Quality, Safety & Performance Improvement

  • Champion quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Utilize performance improvement tools and data to identify opportunities for growth and operational excellence.
  • Integrate research findings and best practices into daily clinical operations.
  • Support organizational goals related to patient safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and patient experience.
  • Share successful improvement strategies across units and service lines when appropriate.

Patient Care & Clinical Excellence

  • Deliver and support patient care using the principles of Relationship-Based Care and the nursing process.
  • Assess and address the clinical, psychosocial, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and families.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and sound clinical judgment in complex patient care situations.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and comprehensive documentation that promotes continuity of care.
  • Assist with direct patient care activities and provide shift leadership when needed.

Change Leadership & Shared Governance

  • Lead initiatives that improve patient care, staff engagement, and department performance.
  • Support staff through organizational and practice changes by providing education, communication, and guidance.
  • Actively participate in shared governance and nursing leadership activities at the unit, hospital, or system level.
  • Assume leadership responsibilities for programs such as quality improvement, evidence-based practice, graduate nurse onboarding, and new hire orientation.
  • Promote innovation and continuous improvement throughout the department.

Title and pay will be determined based on education and experience. 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience required.
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
    • If the bachelor’s degree is not in nursing, a Master’s degree or higher in Nursing is required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated competence as a Professional Staff Nurse.
  • Preferred: Minimum 1 year of experience in a Gastroenterology (GI) or Endoscopy setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for patients served by the department.
  • Ability to assess patient needs across the lifespan and provide care based on age-specific growth and developmental considerations.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with physicians, advanced practice providers, leaders, staff, patients, and families.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, complex healthcare environment while managing multiple priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills related to patient care and operational decision-making.
  • Ability to lead others in the application of the nursing process and evidence-based practice.
  • Physical ability to meet the demands of the role, including frequent walking, standing, lifting, patient positioning, and the manual dexterity necessary to perform clinical duties.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of practice required.
  • National nursing certification preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification required in accordance with American Heart Association (AHA) standards, including both didactic and hands-on skills components, within 30 days of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within one year of hire or transfer into the department.
  • Required clearances:
    • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance
  • Current RN licensure must be maintained either:
    • In the state where the facility is located, or
    • Through a multistate license issued by a participating state in the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
  • Employees working under an out-of-state multistate license who establish residency in the state where the facility is located must obtain that state’s nursing license within 60 days of residency change.
