Psychometrist Assistant (Neuropsychology)
UPMC Department of Neuropsychology is hiring a full-time Psychometrist Assistant to join their team! This is a Monday through Friday daylight position with the hours of 8am to 4:30pm. No evenings, or weekends. This position is primarily based out of the Pediatric office in Lawrenceville, but will require cross coverage and travel to the Mercy location. This position is primarily responsible for performing neuropsychological testing and scoring for pediatric and adult patients.
Purpose:
Under the supervision of a licensed psychologist/trained neuropsychologist, a psychometrist/technician administers standardized and non-standardized tests of cognitive and psychological functioning, plans out trajectory of test batteries, takes detailed behavioral observations, scores all tests administered, and enters information into data summary sheets, plans out trajectory of test batteries, takes detailed behavioral observations, scores all tests administered, and enters information into data summary sheets. The psychometrist also helps elevate the environment of care for patients and families as well as supports day-to-day functioning of neuropsychology clinics.
Responsibilities:
- The technician will perform all duties under direct supervision of a licensed psychologist/trained neuropsychologist.
- Develop and enact an appropriate flow of neuropsychological assessments based on direction from the neuropsychologist, patient capabilities, and patient/family behavior.
- Administer and score standardized and non-standardized tests of cognitive and mental abilities in the course of a work-up for children with complex medical conditions including Epilepsy, Brain Tumors, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Spina Bifida, and other medical disorders affecting the neuro axis. Testing is done in conjunction with the assessment of child/adolescent by the faculty neuropsychologist who may conduct some of the testing. This includes measures of intelligence, language, visuospatial skills, processing speed, attention, memory, executive functioning, motor functioning, academic functioning, effort, and social, emotional, and behavioral functioning. Will involve some coverage working with adult patients through our outpatient program at Mercy Hospital.
- Technician may administer standardized tests of cognition as part of research protocols with neurocognitive outcomes.
- Complete detailed observations of the patient?s behavior and mood during the evaluation including expressive and receptive language functioning, response style, attention and focus, hyperactivity, mood, affect, social skills, and any other notable behaviors. Documentation is written up for each patient in standardized format.
- Create a comfortable environment for children and adolescents in which to complete the testing via utilization of rapport-building techniques and behavior management.
- Administer and score self-report and interview-based inventories and questionnaires completed by the patient and/or family members. Score all tests administered, adhering to standardization methods or those provided by the neuropsychologist in a timely fashion. The technician will develop a nuanced understanding of standardized administration, normative data comparisons, and statistics so as to complete these tasks correctly.
- Actively communicate progress of patients to the attending neuropsychologist so as to adjust the assessment process and improve outcomes as needed.
- Consistently adhere to licensing, accreditation, regulatory, and service expectations per UPMC, the PA DOH, and CHP guidelines and requirements.
- Accurately complete all required documentation within assigned timelines, in accordance with regulatory and licensing standards, and submit to attending neuropsychologist.
- *Collaborate with administration and neuropsychology faculty in the recruitment and hiring of entry level Psychometrist Assistants.*Responsible for training and onboarding new psychometrist assistants and/or Neuropsychology trainees including running weekly trainee check-in meetings during onboarding of new psychometrists*Assist the Clinical Director in streamlining and updating clinic policies for day-to-day procedures
Qualifications:
Psychometrist Assistant Qualifications ($19.80 – $30.40)
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology or other Behavioral Science required.
- Prior neuropsychological testing experience preferred.
- Prior experience working with children is highly desirable.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills including capacity to work with and elicit cooperation from children with significant cognitive, behavioral, and psychiatric problems.
- Must have good professional interaction skills, good observational skills and ability to record those observations.
Psychometrist Assistant, Senior ($20 – $30.55)
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology or other Behavioral Science field required and 2-3 years of neuropsychological testing experience required OR Masters degree in psychology or other Behavioral Science field required and 1 year of neuropsychological testing experience required.
- Prior experience working with children is highly desirable.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills including capacity to work with and elicit cooperation from children with significant cognitive, behavioral, and psychiatric problems.
- Must have good professional interaction skills, good observational skills, and ability to record those observations.
