UPMC is seeking two clinician leaders to join our innovative Virtual Care Center in Oakland, Pittsburgh. In this dynamic leadership role, you will oversee and support our team of Virtual Safety Attendants while helping drive clinical excellence, staff development, and patient safety initiatives across the virtual care environment.

Purpose

The Clinician is a registered nurse leader responsible for supporting daily operations and promoting clinical excellence within the Virtual Care Center. Reporting to the Virtual Care Manager or Director, this role serves as a key leader for staff education, workflow optimization, and performance management while fostering a safe, efficient, and patient-centered virtual care environment.

Responsibilities include staff selection and onboarding, performance management, employee development, and the completion of performance evaluations for direct reports. The Clinician provides clinical expertise, orientation, training, and consultation on practice-related issues while coordinating day-to-day clinical activities. This role may also assume shift accountability for delivering nursing care within the centralized monitoring hub.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead daily virtual care operations and identify opportunities to enhance patient safety, staff engagement, and operational effectiveness.
• Support and guide virtual care staff through change initiatives, workflow improvements, and ongoing professional development.
• Participate in shared governance and assume leadership responsibilities for quality improvement, evidence-based practice initiatives, and new employee onboarding.
• Complete performance evaluations, provide coaching and feedback, and support the growth and success of direct reports.
• Collaborate with nursing leadership, information technology teams, and quality departments to optimize observation workflows and ensure compliance with escalation protocols.
• Apply critical thinking and relationship-based care principles to improve patient monitoring, clinical communication, and safety outcomes.
• Utilize the nursing process to address the clinical, psychosocial, safety, and spiritual needs of patients in a virtual care setting.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation that promotes communication between caregivers and the virtual care team.
• Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for frontline staff, providing real-time support and guidance.
• Partner with operational and informatics leaders to implement evidence-based practices, monitor key performance metrics, and support innovation within virtual care.
• Lead staff huddles, participate in interdisciplinary meetings, and assist with responses to high-risk patient safety trends such as falls, elopement risks, and aggressive behaviors.
• Support continuous quality improvement efforts and promote readiness for regulatory and accreditation reviews.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment through effective communication, mentorship, and team development.
